Yang holds off Tiger in HSBC Champions tournament

South Korea's Yang Yung-eun won the HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai after carding a three-under 69 to complete a two-shot victory over Tiger Woods.

Woods finished runner-up at this tournament for the second successive year.

After a disappointing start the world number one looked to be back to his best when he shot a course record-equalling 64 on Friday, a score carded earlier in the day by Henrik Stenson.

But he was one over for his third round and despite a solid round today in which he carded six birdies to finish 12 under it was not quite enough to catch Korea Open winner Yang, who carded a 14-under 274 to claim the trophy.

And Woods confessed his performance yesterday was his eventual downfall.

"I wasn't quite good enough, yesterday killed me,'' he said.

"I thought if I could get 30 on the back nine somehow I may have got a play-off but it didn't happen.''

South African Retief Goosen had looked on course to claim victory at the Sheshan International Golf Club but three bogeys on the back nine proved to be his undoing and he finished third alongside Michael Campbell.
