Tiger Woods won an incredible sixth successive strokeplay tournament today when he took the American Express World Championship at The Grove near Watford by a massive eight shots.

Six clear overnight, Woods, unbeaten in strokeplay since early July, took seven and a half hours to complete his final round because of two thunderstorm stoppages, but never had a single moment of real concern as he produced a closing 67.

The defending champion took the €1m first prize – his fifth Amex crown in seven attempts and 13th World Championship win in 24 starts – with a 23-under-par total of 261.

England’s Ian Poulter fired a closing 66 to move into a tie for second with Australian Adam Scott.

Woods’ Ryder Cup partner Jim Furyk was fourth and as a result moves back to world number two ahead of the absent Phil Mickelson.
