Tiger Woods missed an eagle chance of only 31 inches but remained in total control of the American Express World Championship when the final round began at The Grove near Watford today.

After finishing his third round with his third successive eagle on the 18th, Woods hit a superb 224-yard approach to the long second, but lipped out and had to be content with "only" a birdie.

It took him to 20 under par, while Adam Scott was joined by Jim Furyk in second place on 14 under.

Tee-off times had been brought forward because of the threat of thunderstorms.
