Bookmaker suspends betting on Ryder rain delay
Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has today suspended all betting on its ‘Ryder Cup Rain Delay’ market.
The bookie released odds of 2/1 on the event to be rain delayed at the beginning on the week. These odds were repeatedly slashed as the weather forecast predicted the increasing likelihood of heavy rain over the weekend.
“Should a rain delay occur we’re now looking a payout over €45,000,” said Ken Robertson of Paddy Power today.
“We were forced to suspend betting earlier today when one punter was looking to place a bet of €30,000 at odds of 1/3. It’s a crazy position to find ourselves in; needless to say while everyone will be looking at the fairways tomorrow we’ll be very nervously scanning the sky!”
The bookie has also slashed its odds on an entire day to be rain delayed from 12/1 to 8/1.
