Special stamps mark Ryder Cup
An Post will issue two specially-commissioned postage stamps to mark the upcoming Ryder Cup at the K Club this Tuesday.
The biennial tournament between Europe and the US will be the biggest sporting event ever staged in Ireland.
It will draw over 50,000 spectators each day to the Co Kildare golf course between September 22 and 24 and attract a TV audience of over one billion.
In July, a set of four 48c stamps were issued to mark the build-up to the event.
Last year, An Post issued a set of stamps to mark the 2002 Ryder Cup victory of Irish trio Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley.
Another stamp featured a portrait of Christy O’Connor Sr, who played in 10 consecutive Ryder Cups.
