Darren Clarke has withdrawn from next week’s United States PGA championship, the last major of the season, and now seems likelier than ever to miss next month’s Ryder Cup, the first to be held in Ireland, as well.

Darren Clarke has withdrawn from next week’s United States PGA championship, the last major of the season, and now seems likelier than ever to miss next month’s Ryder Cup, the first to be held in Ireland, as well.

The 37-year-old said before missing the halfway cut at the Open last month that that would be his last appearance “for the foreseeable future” because of his wife Heather’s long fight with cancer.
