Gabriel Hjertstedt bogeyed two of the final three holes but still held a one-stroke lead after firing a third-round four-under-par 68 at the BC Open in New York.

The Swede, who entered the day tied with Scott Gump and Daisuke Maruyama for the lead, began the round with a birdie and added five more to stand at six under for the day after 15 holes.

But he bogeyed the 16th and 17th to complete 54 holes at 14 under on 202, one ahead of Gump, Mark Brooks and David Branshaw.

Gump opened the day with a bogey but birdied four of the final seven holes for a 69.

Brooks had an eagle on the fourth and added five birdies against just one bogey to finish with a six-under 66.

Local favourite Branshaw began his round with a bogey but hit back with five birdies to sign for a four-under 68.

Maruyama signed for a one-under 71 after five birdies and three bogeys and is level with four others, three shots off the pace.
