Fog prevents play

The start of the first round of the US Women’s Open at Newport Country Club, Rhode Island, was delayed due to fog.

The first three and a half hours were wiped out, and there was no sign of the fog lifting.

With rain and thunderstorms forecast for later in the day, it was unclear when the course would be playable on day one.
