Eagle puts Jacobson in hunt

A 30-foot eagle putt on the long 11th lifted Fredrik Jacobson into a tie for fourth with fellow Swede Richard Johnson and Norway’s Henrik Bjornstad on the third day of the Bank of America Colonial tournament in Texas.

With seven holes to play the pair were three behind new leader Tim Herron, the American taking over at the top after halfway pacesetter Rod Pampling resumed with a bogey six and remained nine under after eight holes.

Herron, seeking his first victory since the 1999 Bay Hill Invitational and with only one top 10 finish all season, led by one at 11 under from compatriot Stewart Cink.

Jacobson, who burst into contention with a Friday 62, followed a birdie at the sixth with bogeys at the next two, but the eagle brought him right back into the thick of things.

Bjornstad, the first Norwegian to earn a US Tour card, was one over for the day until he birdied the ninth and 10th.

Johnson two-putted the 11th to join them on eight under, but Britain’s Justin Rose managed only a one over 71 and at two under looked too far back.
