Duo seek lift in Nashville
English duo Laura Davies and Karen Stupples are in need of a season’s pick-me-up in today’s Franklin American Mortgage Championship at the Legends Club in Nashville, Tennessee.
Davies, the former world number one, has not made a cut in six tournaments on this year’s American LPGA circuit, while Stupples failed to make the weekend in last week’s stop in Orlando.
But both can call on good memories in Nashville. Davies, with 20 career wins, won this title in 1994, while Stupples was in the top 15 last year.
“I just need a lift in confidence and one good tournament could make all the difference,” claimed Davies, who made a bundle of birdies in last week’s Ginn Open in Florida, but also had double and triple-bogeys.
Stupples, the 2004 Weetabix Women’s British Open Champion, is not going through quite the same crisis.
She has already had a top-five finish at the start of the season in Hawaii and is just outside the top 30 on the LPGA rankings.
American Stacy Prammanasudh defends the title over a course that will be playing extra long after a week plagued by thunder, lightning and very heavy rain.
