England’s John Bickerton, eight behind at the start of the day, and Swede Niclas Fasth went into a play-off for the Spanish Open title at San Roque today.

Bickerton fired a course record-equalling 63 to set the target of 18 under par and Fasth, two ahead with two to play, bogeyed them both.

That left Thomas Bjorn kicking himself – he would have been in the play-off as well but for missing from under five feet at the last.

Bjorn had been three clear after grabbing birdies at five of his first six holes, but four-putted the eighth from 40 feet for a double bogey five.

Stephen Browne finished best of the Irish on -11, while Peter Lawrie was on -8. David Higgins finished on -6.
