McGrane heads Headfort Pro-Am Event field

European tour regular Damien McGrane will head the field in the Kingspan Headfort Pro-Am Event on June 16-17.

The field will also include Headfort club professional Brendan McGovern, PGA Irish Club Professional Champion Simon Thornton and former European Tour players Philip Walton and Stephen Hamill.

McGrane, who is an honorary life member at Headfort, said: “With Kingspan sponsorship there’s a lot of money involved, so it’s a major event for the pro players, and the amateurs love being associated with Headfort because it’s such a great venue. There’s every incentive for a golfer to come along and play well.

“I like the challenge presented by the new course. Most people like my mam would prefer the old course because its easier to walk and you’re not hitting over water and the bunkers. If you want to play social golf then you play the old course but if you want a bigger challenge then you play the new course.”

Michael McCumiskey of the PGA said: “There is a good spirit at Headfort, they have worked hard to get the sponsorship and this will be one of the best events we have on the 2006 calendar.”
