Play off joy for Short
Wes Short Jr claimed his first USPGA Tour victory when he defeated Jim Furyk on the second play-off hole at the Tournament Players Club in Las Vegas to win the Michelin Championship.
Short eagled the 16th and birdied the last to force the play-off and then parred the par-three 17th for the win after Furyk had fired his tee shot into the water.
Furyk finished his round of seven-under-par 65 with a bogey on the final hole, allowing Short to tie him at 21 under with a 66.
Furyk had taken a two-shot lead with an eagle of his own on the 16th but Short collected the first prize of £408,000 (€595,000) and a two-year Tour exemption.
After trading pars with Furyk on the first play-off hole, Short hit his tee shot on 17 into a bunker right of the green but blasted out to two feet and tapped in for the win.
Ted Purdy, aiming for a second win of the season, had a two-stroke lead entering the final day but a triple-bogey at the 17th dropped him out of contention.
He finished tied for third with Harrison Frazar (68) at 19 under.
Padraig Harrington finished tied for 39th at 10 under.
