Jacquelin jumps into share of Munich lead
Raphael Jacquelin continued his love affair with the Nord-Eichenried course, posting a superb third round in the BMW International Open at Munich today.
Jacquelin carded an eight-under-par 64, the lowest of the week so far, to move into a share of the lead on 12 under with England’s Luke Donald and Australian Brett Rumford.
The 31-year-old Frenchman was in the second group out this morning after making the halfway cut right on the mark of four under – but he carded six birdies and two eagles, including one at the 18th, to storm home in just 30 shots.
Only bogeys at the third and 10th prevented him from equalling the course record of 62 he already shares with five other players – although it would not have counted officially because of the preferred lies in operation.
Jacquelin, who also won one of the sponsor’s cars for a hole-in-one on the 17th here in 2001, said: “I’m very pleased – it was a great round of golf.
“It wasn’t easy waking up at 5am this morning – but after four holes I warmed up and played really well.
“I hope I will only be four or five behind at the end of the day, but it’s going to be difficult.”
Donald and Rumford were not due out until shortly after 1pm local time, with Argentina’s Angel Cabrera and England’s Simon Khan a shot behind.
