Smyth comes close as Watson triumphs

Ireland’s Des Smyth missed out on victory at the Senior British Open tonight, after losing out to Scottish links specialist Tom Watson in a play-off.

The 51-year-old Irish golfer can console himself with a cheque for £105,250 (€151,784).
