US Open odds cut on Els after giant wager

Bookmakers Ladbrokes have cut the odds on Ernie Els winning the US Open from 10/1 to 7/1 after receiving a £40,000 (€60,000) bet.

Tiger Woods remains a 5/1 favourite, but Els is now second favourite ahead of Phil Mickelson, runner-up to Payne Stewart at Pinehurst six years ago.

Sergio Garcia heads up the European challenge at 20/1 after winning the Booz Allen Classic on Sunday.

England’s Luke Donald, second in the Players Championship and third on his Masters debut, is quoted at 25/1.
