Minoza makes move in Jakarta

Colin Montgomerie remained well adrift of the leaders in the delayed third round of the Indonesia Open today.

After surviving the halfway cut with a stroke to play when the second round was completed, Montgomerie could only manage two birdies in his opening eight holes in Jakarta.

That lifted the former European number one to six under par for the tournament but still a distant eight shots off the pace set by Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant.

Montgomerie was right on the cut mark with five holes to play when a thunderstorm brought an early end to play on Friday.

He faced a tough third shot to the 14th from the bank of a greenside bunker when play resumed, but saved par and then picked up birdies on the 16th and 17th.

A bogey on the 18th gave the 41-year-old a round of 69 and surely ended his hopes of securing the win he needs to climb back into the world’s top 50 and qualify for next month’s US Masters.

The weather delays over the first two days meant a two-tee start was necessary for the 79 players who made the halfway cut at three under par.

Wiratchant opened with two pars to remain one ahead of Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts and Frankie Minoza of the Philippines.

Minoza had covered the front nine in just 29 shots with a birdie on the second, four in a row from the fifth and an eagle on the ninth.
