Monty makes cut in Jakarta

Colin Montgomerie survived the halfway cut in the Indonesia Open when the delayed second round was completed today.

Montgomerie was right on the cut mark with five holes to play when a thunderstorm brought an early end to play in Jakarta.

The former European number one faced a tough third shot to the 14th from the bank of a greenside bunker when play resumed, but saved par and then picked up birdies on the 16th and 17th.

A bogey on the 18th gave the 41-year-old a round of 69 to leave him four under for the tournament.

The Scot needs to win to climb back into the world’s top 50 and qualify for next month’s US Masters, but is 10 shots behind leader Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand.

Wiratchant eagled his final hole on Friday to complete a second consecutive 63 for a 14 under halfway total of 126, one shot clear of Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts.

Northern Ireland’s Michael Hoey, joint leader after the first round, is three shots further back after adding a 68 to his opening 62.

The weather delays over the first two days meant a two-tee start was necessary for the 79 players who made the halfway cut at three under par.

Starting from the 10th, Montgomerie opened with a par but then birdied the 11th to improve to five under.
