A group of eight young Irish golfers have spent a week in a training camp at the La Cala Resort in Mijas in preparation for this year’s international championships.

The visit was arranged by the Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI) and the panel was selected on performances in major tournaments over the last year.

The panel played a match against top junior players attached to the David Leadbetter Golf Academy also situated in the La Cala Resort. A number of the panel members, whose handicaps range from 0 to 2, are expected to pursue professional careers in the game.

Team captain Ciaran Burke said the GUI has brought the panel to La Cala over the past eight years due to the fantastic facilities on offer.

Tha La Cala Resort will open its third 18-hole course in March. It is owned by the Irish insurance company, FBD Holdings.
