Clarke finishes joint sixth at Pebble Beach

Darren Clarke finished joint sixth as Phil Mickelson claimed his second title in eight days at the Pebble Beach Pro-am in California tonight.

Mickelson, who went 10 months without winning after his triumph in the Masters last April, followed up his FBR Open success by leading from start-to-finish, a closing 73 being good enough for a four-stroke win on 19 under par.

Fellow left-hander Mike Weir, his predecessor as Masters champion, took the runners-up spot thanks to a superb 67, the only sub-70 round of the final day.

England’s Greg Owen, second overnight in only his third event since coming through the US Tour qualifying school, birdied the par-five last for a 72 that made him third on his own.

Clarke, whose wife Heather is currently battling cancer, shared sixth with American Arron Oberholser, while fellow Ulsterman Graeme McDowell was eighth. Both closed with 71s.
