Tiger on the prowl
Tiger Woods shot a five under par 65 to be tied for the lead after the third round at the Tour Championship in Atlanta, Georgia.
After his lone bogey on the par four first hole, Woods was flawless the rest of the way in a round that included six birdies.
Woods joined second-round leader Jay Haas at nine under 201 through 54 holes. Haas signed for a 68 in the third round.
Woods and Haas are four strokes in front of Mike Weir (67), Retief Goosen (69) and Stephen Ames (70).
It has been a disappointing year for Woods, whose lone win came at the Match Play Championship in February.
The former world number one recorded his last win in stroke play more than a year ago at the American Express Championship.
Vijay Singh, the world’s top-ranked player, saw his quest for a 10th victory of the year all but come to an end after he shot a 70.
He is two over, 11 shots back from Woods and Haas.
Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland is nine shots behind the leading duo after firing 70, and two shots further back is Irishman Padraig Harrington who recorded 68.
