Veteran Jay Haas birdied the final hole to claim a two-shot lead after the second round of the US Tour Championship in Atlanta.

The 50-year-old carded a four-under-par 66 to finish seven under at halfway, Stephen Ames also recording a 66 to move into second.

Tiger Woods fired a best of the day 64 at East Lake Golf Club, the former world number one picking up six birdies and no bogeys to improve to four under.

Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke slipped down the leaderboard however, a 73 dropping the first round joint-leader back into a tie for 10th.

World number one Vijay Singh, seeking a 10th win of the season, was nine shots off the pace on two over after also struggling to a 73.

Ryder Cup star Sergio Garcia was one shot better off after a 70 but Ireland’s Padraig Harrington slumped to a 75 to lie 23rd in the 30-man field.
