Harrington finishes off Riley
Padraig Harrington has finished off Chris Riley at the World Match Play in Wentworth. Riley had a chance to keep it alive, but missed a 10-footer.
It was Angel Cabrera who earned the right to face Ernie Els, further halves in par at the two closing par fives putting out KJ Choi.
Thomas Levet went one-up on Mike Weir when the Canadian bogeyed the 34th and Miguel Angel Jimenez got back in front against Flesch with a birdie at the long 30th.
The compensation for Scott Drummond, Chris Riley and Choi were cheques for £60,000 (€87,000). But Els, Harrington and Cabrera still had hopes of the £1m (€1.45m) first prize – the biggest in golf.
Lee Westwood wasted little time sending Todd Hamilton to defeat, a 33-foot birdie putt on the 33rd giving the Worksop golfer a four and three margin.
Langer, only 86th in the world, was looking good against Singh again when the Fijian three-putted the 29th and returned to two behind.
It was starting to look like a complete European Tour line-up in the last eight, Weir falling to Levet when the French Ryder Cup player birdied the 35th.
It meant a Ryder Cup clash between team-mates Harrington and Levet for a spot in the semi-finals.
Jimenez then went two-up on Flesch with a six-foot birdie putt on the short 32nd and Bernhard Langer remained two ahead of Vijay Singh when both birdied the par five 30th.
