Padraig Harrington has taken a two hole lead after seven on Ryder Cup opponent Chris Riley at the HSBC World Match Play Championship at Wentworth today.

The American bogeying the first and then failing to match Harrington’s 18-foot eagle putt on the long fourth.

There was little chance of all eight 36-hole games being completed today because of the delay, the bottom clash between world number one Vijay Singh and European Ryder Cup captain Bernhard Langer not even kicking off until 12.15pm.

Singh bogeyed the short second to fall behind, while Lee Westwood, winner in 2000, fell behind to British Open champion Todd Hamilton when the American birdied the fourth.

In the other games US Open champion Retief Goosen led American Jeff Maggert by three after five, Canadian Mike Weir was one-up on France’s Thomas Levet after five, South Korean KJ Choi was one down to Argentinian Angel Cabrera after eight and Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez drew first blood against American Steve Flesch with an opening par four.
