The early leaderboard had a truly international flavour to it on the first morning of the Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.

Holland’s Maarten Lafeber, who was being partnered by football great Johann Cruyff, had an early share of the lead at two-under-par after four holes on the Kingsbarns course.

He shared top spot with South Korean Yong-Eun Yang and South African Hennie Otto, who was alongside former Australia rugby union star Michael Lynagh at Carnoustie.

Just a further shot behind on one under were a clutch of stars including Scottish duo Sandy Lyle and Andrew Coltart, who were putting their home knowledge to good use at Kingsbarns.

Ryder Cup heroes Padraig Harrington, Darren Clarke and defending champion Lee Westwood were level early on the same course, along with world number two Ernie Els.
