Pros to mark R&A anniversary

World number one Vijay Singh is one of four professionals taking part in a special competition to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club this week.

Singh, Ernie Els, Colin Montgomerie and Sam Torrance will play in the dunhill links Hickory Challenge over the first, second, 17th and 18th holes on the Old Course, St Andrews.

All four will use antique hickory shafted clubs and be partnered by amateurs in two four ball matches on Tuesday.

Johann Rupert, chairman of the dunhill links championship committee, supermodel Jodie Kidd, businessman Teddy Forstmann and Torrance’s 16-year-old son Daniel are the amateurs involved.
