Langer confident of seeing job through
European captain Bernhard Langer was delighted with the singles draw for the final day of the 35th Ryder Cup at Oakland Hills.
With the United States facing a record six-point deficit, Langer correctly assumed his opposite number Hal Sutton would put his top players out early and adjusted his order accordingly.
The German revealed Paul Casey had asked to take on Tiger Woods in the first match, while Sergio Garcia, with three-and-a-half points out of four, faces Phil Mickelson and Darren Clarke is up against Davis Love in the opening three matches.
āI like what I see in the draw,ā Langer said. āI am not scared at all. I think they are going to win five or six points and that would be fantastic.
āI would be very surprised if we donāt get two points from the first three. We might not have the superstars we had in the 1980s but we have great players.ā
In contrast, Sutton simply put his 12 players out in the singles in the order in which they qualified for the team, and admitted: āThat was as good a way as any.
āThe top three players are the strongest players we have got.
We have a large deficit and maybe the Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson you all know have not been here this week, there is a good chance they will be there tomorrow, and if they are whatās going to happen?
āIf they do show up they will be formidable opposition.ā
