There are two new caps on the team selected to represent Ireland in the men’s Home Internationals from 8th-10th September at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland.

There are two new caps on the team selected to represent Ireland in the men’s Home Internationals from 8th-10th September at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland.

They are Greg Bowden (Hermitage) and Cian McNamara (Limerick).

Bowden, who won the Mullingar Scratch Cup earlier this month, was runner-up on two occasions earlier in the season at the West and South of Ireland Championships while Cian McNamara won the South of Ireland Championship at Lahinch last month beating Bowden in the final.

Walker Cup star Noel Fox is included in the eleven-man team, along with the East of Ireland champion Mark Campbell. Also included are Darren Crowe, Richard Kilpatrick, Gareth Maybin, Irish Close Champion Brian McElhinney, Michael McGeady, Sean McTernan and Michael Sinclair.

Seven of the 11 selected were part of the winning team at Ballybunion in 2003 which saw Ireland triumph on home soil.

The team is:

Greg Bowden (Hermitage), Mark Campbell (Stackstown), Darren Crowe (Dunmurry), Noel Fox (Portmarnock), Richard Kilpatrick (Banbridge), Gareth Maybin (Ballyclare), Brian McElhinney (North West), Michael McGeady (North West), Cian McNamara (Limerick), Sean McTernan (County Sligo) Michael Sinclair (Knock).

Non-travelling reserves: Mark O’Sullivan (Galway) and Paul O’Hanlon (Curragh)

Captain: Mark Gannon (Co. Louth)

Irish Boys Selection to play Canada

The Irish Boys team selected to play Canada in a Junior Challenge match at Hamilton Golf and Country Club from September 7-9 is: Niall Kearney (Royal Dublin), Simon Gallivan (Killarney), Simon Ward (Co. Louth), Karl Gilbert (Malone), Aaron O’Callaghan (Douglas), Christopher Hughes (Royal Portrush), Paul O’Hanlon (Curragh) and Michael Mulryan (Athenry).

Captain: Ciaran Burke (City of Derry).

Note: Rory McIlroy, the Irish Boys and Youths Champion, was unavailable for selection. Rory is a member of the Europe Junior Ryder Cup team to play the USA and which clashes with the Ireland v Canada match.
