Tunnicliff edges towards title

England’s Miles Tunnicliff played a superb outward half to be four ahead with nine holes to play in the Diageo Championship at Gleneagles.

Despite a strong wind Tunnicliff, three ahead overnight, birdied the first two holes and added another on the long ninth to turn in 33.

He reached 12 under par, while Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell, six adrift at the start, had five successive birdies around the turn to charge into second place, with Scot Steven O’Hara one further back.

There were holes-in-one from Essex’s Robert Coles at the fourth and Raymond Russell on the 10th.
