Late burst gives Frazar lead

Harrison Frazar birdied the final three holes to take a one-stroke lead after the third round of the Sony Open.

Frazar, who has never won on the PGA Tour, carded a four-under-par 66 on another delightful day at Waialae Country Club.

He reached 14-under 196 with one round left, a shot ahead of defending champion Ernie Els, who also shot 66.

Davis Love posted a 63 and was tied for third with Frank Lickliter II, two shots off the pace.

Halfway leader Stephen Allan fell three shots behind with Paul Azinger.

England's Luke Donald slipped seven shots off the pace and into a share of 16th place with a one-over-par 71.

Frazar has never cracked the top 60 on the money list in six seasons on tour but has recorded two runner-up finishes and three third-place showings.

He started the day a stroke behind Allan and had six birdies with two bogeys.

With most of the gallery following the big names, Frazar and Allan played in relative anonymity in the final pairing.
