Argentina’s Ricardo Gonzalez came from six strokes behind to win the Telefonica Madrid Open today – his second European tour title.

Gonzalez, 34 last Friday, produced a closing 65 for a 14 under par total of 270 and won by one with England’s Paul Casey, four clear overnight, Irishman Padraig Harrington, Australian Nick O’Hern and Swede Marten Olander all failing to birdie the 349-yard final hole.

The victory was worth £162,288 (€233,370) and followed his success in the 2001 European Masters in Switzerland.

Sergio Garcia needed one birdie in the last two holes to tie, but bogeyed both of them.
