Harrington leads but regrets missed chance
Ireland’s Padraig Harrington, England’s Paul Casey and New Zealander Stephen Scahill share the lead entering the last round – indeed the last day ever – of the Benson and Hedges International Open.
But the player with most to smile about at The Belfry today was Essex’s Simon Khan. He walked away with the keys to a Toyota Land Cruiser.
While halfway leader Harrington reflected on a 71 which let slip a chance to “take so many people out of the tournament”, 30-year-old Khan holed-in-one with a six-iron to the 193-yard 12th.
“My only other one was as an amateur at Wanstead – I got a pat on the back for that,” he said. “What a moment, unbelievable. It was the perfect yardage for my six-iron and it landed about four feet short, took a couple of bounces and went in. Great.”
Scahill, another who had to play for his future last November, equalled the course record with his seven under par 65, while Casey shot 66.
They and Harrington all stand on the 10 under par total of 206, one ahead of defending champion Angel Cabrera and four clear of Dutchman Rolf Muntz.
