South African James Kingston, armed with a borrowed putter after the one he used in Dubai last week appeared to have been stolen, produced one of the best rounds of his life today to take charge of the Qatar Masters in windy Doha.

While others struggled to stay afloat in the stiff conditions the 37-year-old from near Johannesburg went to the turn in a blistering 31 and then, equally impressively, kept a bogey off his card coming home in level par.
