Faldo maintains pressure on Cejka
Nick Faldo remained hot on the heels of leader Alex Cejka in the second round of the Lancome Trophy at St Nom La Breteche.
Cejka held a one-shot lead overnight after carding a seven-under-par 64, with Faldo one of six players a shot further back in second.
The Czech-born German, in the first match out on the course from the 10th, quickly stretched his advantage to three shots with birdies at the 11th and 12th.
A bogey at the next, however, came moments before Faldo holed from 20 feet for birdie on the par three 12th and the gap was back to one.
As if having a six-time major winner breathing down your neck was not bad enough, Cejka came up against an unusual obstacle on the 15th.
Cejka, Miguel Angel Martin and David Howell were the first group to play the 438-yard par four, and when they tried to hit their approach shots discovered there was no flag in the hole.
A flag was quickly sent out to the green and the mishap did not prevent Cejka from making his par to remain one ahead on eight under.
Sergio Garcia meanwhile had stepped up his bid to retain his title with a birdie on the 10th, his opening hole, the Spaniard holing from 15 feet after recovering well from his hooked tee shot.
Paul McGinley birdied the same hole to join Garcia on five under par, three off the lead.
