Colin Montgomerie gave Europe the perfect start as Sam Torrance’s men edged within sight of a thrilling victory at The Belfry.

Tied at 8-8 at the start of the day’s 12 singles, Torrance put his top five world ranked players out in the top five matches and watched them collect three and a half points.
