Ryder Cup captains choose opposite strategies

Sam Torrance and Curtis Strange have decided totally different strategies for the final day of the Ryder Cup.

Sam Torrance and Curtis Strange have decided totally different strategies for the final day of the Ryder Cup.

With the two teams level 8-8, Torrance starts off with five of his big guns - unbeaten Colin Montgomerie, Sergio Garcia, Darren Clarke, Bernhard Langer and Padraig Harrington.

Strange, on the other hand, has put Davis Love 10th, world number two Phil Mickelson last but one (against Phillip Price) and world number one Tiger Woods last of all against Jesper Parnevik.

The danger for the Americans, of course, is that if Torrance's plan comes off Woods and Mickelson could find themselves in dead matches.

Montgomerie plays Scott Hoch, whom he faced in the final match of the 1997 match at Valderrama.

They halved that - but it was all Europe required to keep the trophy.

Garcia plays David Toms and Clarke is up against David Duval.

11.15 Colin Montgomerie v Scott Hoch

11.27 Sergio Garcia v David Toms

11.39 Darren Clarke v David Duval

11.51 Bernhard Langer v Hal Sutton

12.03 Padraig Harrington v Mark Calcavecchia

12.15 Thomas Bjorn v Stewart Cink

12.27 Lee Westwood v Scott Verplank

12.39 Niclas Fasth v Paul Azinger

12.51 Paul McGinley v Jim Furyk

13.03 Pierre Fulke v Davis Love III

13.15 Phillip Price v Phil Mickelson

13.27 Jesper Parnevik v Tiger Woods
