The Irishman began the day on four-under-par, but five birdies and two bogeys moved him up to seven-under.

Tobias Dier still leads on 13-under after following up his opening round 60 with a 67.

Harrington started with four pars, but claimed a fine birdie two at the 125-yard fifth, only to drop a shot at the next.

However, he made his charge around the turn. Three birdies at nine, 11 and 12 moved him to seven-under.

Harrington dropped his second shot of the day at the par three 15th, but a birdie four at the last ensured a happy ending to a solid round.
