Smyth recovers to set early target

Irish veteran Des Smyth recovered from a back injury to produce a three under first round at the Open at Muirfield.

Smyth, who set the early clubhouse target, had been a doubtful starter after pulling some back muscles but recovered from a bogey at the first to card four birdies and a first round 68.
