Michael Collins from Charleville and Royal Co Down's Colin McElderry share the lead after the first two rounds in the Kellogg's PGA Irish Assistants' Championship at Charlesland.

They both posed a one-over-par 145 to be one shot clear of the field.

Biting at their heels are Mark Heinemann, Killarney, and another Royal Co Down player Simon Thornton with defending champion David Ryan, Cork, and JP Dolan, Charleville, a further shot back.

The best score of the day was posted in the opening round by Grange assistant Shane Deegan who carded a two-under-par 70 but took 84 shots second time out.

However, he did make the cut that on 156 with 39 players - leading 36 and ties - getting through to the final two rounds tomorow.
