Montgomerie remains on top

Colin Montgomerie's position at the top of the leaderboard remained unthreatened on the second morning of the PGA championship at Wentworth.

While Montgomerie, after his brilliant first-round 64, had yet more treatment on his injured back, the early second-round starters struggled by and large.

After four hours' play only two of the first 60 players back on to the West Course were under par for the day.

Montgomerie was three clear of fellow Andrew Coltart, Eduardo Romero, Mark McNulty and Steen Tinning.

Defending champion Andrew Oldcorn, resuming in joint sixth place on four under, bogeyed the fifth and eighth to turn in 37, and dropped to two under.
