Golf: Masters club gives to Tiger charity
Augusta National, the exclusive golf club which every year stages the Masters, is donating £350,000 to the Tiger Woods Foundation.
Chairman Hootie Johnson said: ‘‘We continue to support those organisations that are equipped to make informed decisions on the use of the donations for the good of the game.
‘‘The Tiger Woods Foundation’s mission is to initiate and support community-based programmes that promote health, education and welfare of all of America’s children.
‘‘Tiger’s commitment to serve as a role model in this mission will have a huge influence on America’s youth and the future of the game of golf.’’
Woods, who when he won his second Masters green jacket in April completed the sport’s first-ever clean sweep of the four majors, said: ‘‘I never expected this and I am thrilled that Augusta National has come through in support of the Tiger Woods Foundation in such a big way.
‘‘I believe that their contribution will send out a message about the commitment in golf for meaningful change and it will encourage others to follow their example.’’
This year the club pledged over £2million to charity.
