Golf: McGovern scoops winner's cheque
A closing three-under-par 68 at City of Derry gave Headfort professional
Brendan McGovern the winner's cheque after the 54-holes BT North pro-am
tournament.
This is McGovern's third time to win the competition which was celebrating its tenth birthday over the weekend.
He had two shots to spare over John Dwyer who won the William Flynn Memorial
event at Shannon last weekend.
The winner highlighted his card with a golden eagle three at the 7th hole where he chipped in from the edge of the green after a drive and three wood approach.
He birdied the long 3rd and the par four 18th holes with his only bogey of the round being a five at the 10th hole.
"That was only my fourth bogey in the three rounds," revealed McGovern. "I
drove it straight and putted well - indeed, I could have had a much better score but I'm happy enough, of course, to have won the event."
