The women’s home international golf matches at Carlow Golf Club are due to kick off tomorrow.

The women’s home international golf matches at Carlow Golf Club are due to kick off tomorrow.

Last year, at Royal St David’s, Harlech, England beat Scotland 6-3, Ireland 8-1 and defending champions Wales 5-4.

England, spearheaded by Rebecca Hudson, are favourites going into the series.

The opening programme pits defending champions England against Scotland, bottom of the table last year, and Wales against Ireland.

That overall victory in 1999 by a young Welsh team at Royal Dornoch was an historic occasion - their only victory in 106 years.

Ireland are certainly overdue a win as their last was in 1986.
