Golf: Strange choice of Azinger and Verplank for Ryder Cup

Curtis Strange today named Paul Azinger and Scott Verplank as his two wild cards for next month’s match at The Belfry - and not Tom Lehman, central character in the controversy at the end of the last match.

With David Toms forcing his way onto the American team by winning the US PGA championship, Lehman needed to be picked and at 11th in the table was favourite to be selected.
