Paul McGinley admitted that he was not yet guaranteed a Ryder Cup place after winning the Wales Open.

The Dubliner's third European Tour win and first in four years takes him to the verge of a Cup debut.

McGinley won a dramatic sudden-death play-off against Daren Lee and Paul Lawrie in a rain-affected tournament at Celtic Manor.

But McGinley said: "I don't feel I'm 100 per cent there yet but I'm getting close to it now.

"There was a big difference between winning and coming second."

He added: "Goran Ivanisevic said God sent the rain for him and maybe he sent it for me too!"
