Golf: Sergio back for BMW International
Spain’s Sergio Garcia is to fly back from America to compete in the final qualifying event for the Ryder Cup, the BMW International Open in Munich on August 30-September 2.
Garcia currently lies 19th in the points race and, while virtually guaranteed one of captain Sam Torrance’s two wild cards after two victories on the US Tour this summer, he will be trying to claim an automatic top-10 spot.
That in turn would enable Torrance to pick two of Jesper Parnevik, Jose Maria Olazabal, Ian Woosnam, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Paul Lawrie if they remain in need of a wild card.
All the above still have next week’s US PGA championship to secure a place in the top 12, which would qualify them for the £3m NEC World Championship in Akron the following week.
