Golf: Irish trio going great guns at Wentworth
Paul McGinley is continuing his recent good run of form at the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth.
The Dubliner has shot an opening six-under par round of 66 today, to put him second outright behind Argentinian leader Angel Cabrera, who ended day one on nine under following a 63.
Padraig Harrington has also enjoyed a fruitful opening day, and lies joint third alongside Steve Webster and Philip Price thanks to a five-under round of 67.
Damien McGrane of Wexford Golf Club started sufficiently well enough to bring him up to two under par with six holes left, thrusting him up to joint eighth.
Of the other Irish, Darren Clarke has finished the day on level par, while Michael Allen only dropped one shot over the first seven holes to leave him one over, one better than Eamonn Darcy who found himself two over at the 11th.
It was a solid start for Stephen Hamill, however, who went through the opening five holes in par.
Other Irish players to tee off later in the afternoon included Des Smyth, David Higgins and Ronan Rafferty.
