FA golf course to relieve ‘boredom’

England’s footballers are to get their own designated golf course as part of plans to upgrade the country’s national football centre.

FA golf course to relieve ‘boredom’

According to the BBC, a nine-hole golf course is planned for St George’s Park, the £105m centre of excellence which is to be the base for up to 24 different England teams in Staffordshire.

The decision to design a golf course into the facilities comes after former England skipper Steven Gerrard called the training centre “boring”.

Gerrard said the FA needed to be more player friendly.

Park managing director Julie Harrington told BBC: “We have been working on plans including the provision of a golf course,” she said.

Gerrard had bemoaned the lack of things to do at St George’s Park. “They need to make it a little bit friendlier for the players,” he said.

“It’s a top place to train and prepare but away from training pitch and the games, it can be boring.”
