New title sponsor to be unveiled for Irish Open

A European Tour source hinted the new sponsor is a well-known Ireland ‘name brand’. It will be officially unveiled this Friday.

It will be the first occasion in two years — since communications giant ‘3’ backed the event from 2008-10 — that Ireland’s premier golfing event will have an official main sponsor.

This ‘name brand’ will sponsor the event for one year, with the option of continuing for future years.

Carrolls sponsored the Irish Open from 1975-93, before Murphy’s backed the event from 1994-2003, while Nissan took up sponsorship from 2003-06.
