Golfing Union set aside €250,000 to assist storm-damaged courses

Dozens of clubs devastated by storms over the winter are expected to apply for aid after the Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI) set aside €250,000 for an Emergency Loan Fund Scheme.

Under the scheme, which was approved following a special meeting of the Central Council of the GUI, clubs that suffered damage as a result of the recent extreme weather may apply for an interest free loan of up to €12,000, with a maximum term of 10 years.

The central council met to amend a sub-clause in the Union’s Constitution, which formerly prohibited the Union from providing financial assistance to its member clubs.
